Spring Advising Forum

WSU Spring Advising Forum — February 19, 2018

Call for Proposals

Have you heard of Pecha Kucha?

Pecha Kucha is a presentation style in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each, resulting in 6 minutes and 40 seconds total.  This allows for the speaker to focus on the topic at hand, connect with their audience, and have fun!

This February, the WSU Spring Advising Forum will be primarily in this format centered on the NACADA Core Competencies found here: http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Resources/Pillars/CoreCompetencies.aspx.

We invite you to submit proposals on any topic you feel can be connected back to one of the competencies.  Be creative, be bold, be brave!  This is an opportunity to share your experiences, wisdom, and personal and professional self with the advising community.  We encourage anyone who works with students to submit proposals!

Some suggestions for topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Advising Hacks – tricks to do our jobs smarter, not harder!
  • Creative uses of Technology
  • Student Populations – online students, veterans, international, first-gen, transfer, etc.
  • Theory
  • Approaches
  • Student Engagement
  • Campus Resources
  • Advisor Self-Growth / Wellness
  • Creating Parent-Friendly spaces (for both students who are parents as well as colleagues)
  • Getting out of Silos – working across units and campuses

We ask that each proposal clearly indicates which core competency your topic is related to and includes at least 2 learning outcomes.  Tips for writing learning outcomes can be found here: http://www.bu.edu/cme/forms/RSS_forms/tips_for_writing_objectives.pdf
